Job Description

Looking to apply your library and staff management skills in an exceptional and unique work environment? Eager to meet the challenges of one of the toughest and most rewarding subfields of librarianship? Have you always wanted to build a library from the ground up? Have you ever suspected, even for a moment, that you really do belong behind bars? If you answered yes to any of these questions, you may be the Colorado Department of Corrections’ next Librarian II! The expansion of Centennial Correctional Facility in Cañon City has resulted in the creation of a librarian position, whose responsibilities include establishing a new library to serve the expanding facility as well as supervising library staff and developing services at the two existing libraries at Centennial Correctional Facility and Colorado State Penitentiary. Under the direction of a Program Manager and Regional Librarian, this full-time position will provide public/school-type (not law) library services to adult male offenders (95% of whom use their library) and facility staff in high security and close custody environments that have been internationally recognized for changing offender behavior. Colorado Department of Corrections seeks an employee who wants to build a rewarding, high-impact correctional career and provide an environment where offenders obtain meaningful work and self-improvement opportunities as they prepare for community re-entry. Current library staff seek a creative, enthusiastic, and energetic team leader with library and supervisory experience, a sound moral compass, and a vision for their libraries’ future. The offenders seek a librarian who will build and continually develop a central information center that meets their informational, educational, recreational and cultural needs and interests. Prior correctional experience is not required. For full duties and responsibilities, description of benefits, conditions of employment, and instructions to apply, see http://exdoc1.state.co.us/job/general-professional-iii-librarian-ii-cc5834.
