Job Description

This position provides four basic technical functions for library services at the US Environmental Protection Agencey Technical Library: reference service for EPA staff and the public, promotion of the library’s services and collections, Interlibrary Loan service, and collection maintenance. The desired results are: support of EPA staff research, support of public inquires about the environment, improved patron awareness of library holdings and services, efficient Interlibrary Loan service, and maintaining a collection of current environmental resources, both traditional and electronic. Roles/Responsibilities: Provide extensive and ready (quick) reference service for EPA staff and the public Promote the library’s services and collections through outreach projects Process Interlibrary Loan requests, both lending and borrowing Assist in collection maintenance by cataloging (both original and copy cataloging) using OCLC Connexion and OLS systems Develop pathfinders, guides, directories, and other tools which guide users to relevant environmental information sources Prepare and present training sessions on library information products and services for EPA staff Maintain an effective circulation system and journal tracking system Post environmental news daily Keep statistics of work performed

MLS from an accredited institution, be proficient in Microsoft office programs and other computer software, be comfortable teaching and speaking to groups of patrons, and have excellent organizational and communication skills. A knowledge of science and environmental issues is preferred, but not required. Experience in conducting legal research and knowledge of social media tools for special libraries would be a plus.
