Job Description

The cataloger provides access to library materials through classification and cataloging. Other job duties include item processing. This position assists the Head of Technical Services with special projects. Major duties: Copy cataloging, Database maintenance of bibliographical and authority records, Assist Head of Technical Services with special projects.

Minor duties: Works the circulation desk one evening a week and on their scheduled weekend Essential Functions: Performs copy cataloging using MARC format, Library of Congress subject headings, Dewey Decimal system and other industry standards Competency in knowledge of cataloging principles and procedures Familiarity with OCLC, LCRI, and standard national cataloging practices The duties require competence in various computer software and equipment, especially those relating to libraries Knowledge of current trends in cataloging Excellent customer service skills Ability to work independently and with flexibility Ability to help manage the local database, including development and maintenance of local authority files and holding deletions Willingness to participate in staff meetings to discuss/resolve problems, discuss ideas for improvement, and keep updated on library plans and activities, and changing standards Other duties may be assigned and/or reassigned as needed. The hours for position will be 24-32 per week, yet to be determined.
