Job Description

GENERAL DESCRIPTION OF DUTIES: The Parker Library has two part-time (15hrs/wk) openings for Material Handler Technicians. This position involves the processing, handling and shelving of library materials in an accurate and timely manner. Maintains the general order of library materials and performs other circulation functions and basic clerical activities in support of library services. REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS: Must be able to accurately and efficiently file alphabetically, alpha-numerically and numerically. Computer Skills: Must have a working knowledge of computers including internet, email, Microsoft Office Products (or equivalent). Must be able to learn and become proficient with the library’s software classification system (relational database), automated handling equipment systems, scheduling, time card and other software programs required to effectively and efficiently perform assigned tasks. Physical Abilities: Must have the ability to stand, walk, bend to floor level and reach a height over 70 inches on a rotating basis for several hours per shift. Must be able to push/pull loaded carts with a force of up to 35 pounds, carry 15 pounds, lift up to 35 pounds and grip up to 15 pounds. Requires reaching, lifting, carrying, repetitive lifting, grasping, kneeling, squatting, climbing, keyboarding and repetitive motions of hands/wrists. Must be able to read minimum font size of 8 point. On an occasional basis, must be able to tolerate residual smoke, dust and mold on materials.

Position requires the ability to work flexible schedule to include various hours, days, evenings and weekend shifts.
