Job Description

National Jewish Health in Denver, a 112 year old medical and research center that is a world leader in research and the treatment of respiratory, immune and allergic disorders, is seeking a highly motivated and seasoned Director to plan, coordinate and supervise the technical operations and services of Library and Knowledge Services and to provide this support service to faculty, staff, and patients of the institution. This position oversees the technical systems of the library including the acquisition, cataloging, and processing of print and electronic materials and the activities of the interlibrary loan and circulation systems; performs reference support as necessary; supervises 2-3 employees; and manages the technical administrative functions of the library including monitoring the financial records. Plans and coordinates the technical functions, library services, and knowledge services by developing and maintaining the systems necessary to provide the variety of services as described in the The Medical Library Association Guide to Managing Health Care Libraries, 2nd Edition. Neal-Schuman Publishers, 2011. 2. Monitors professional changes in the library field, seeking ways to improve library and knowledge services. 3. Develops and monitors the Library and Knowledge Services budget, implements policies and procedures for Library and Knowledge Services. 4. Coordinates the development and evaluation of library and knowledge services programs and promotes them to the National Jewish community. Knowledge and Skills Knowledge of library science principles and practices. Knowledge of management principles and practices such as planning, budgeting, and personnel management. Knowledge of website administration. Ability to perform computerized literature searching, utilizing complex database systems. Knowledge of the medical literature and its organization. Knowledge of microcomputer technology, both Macintosh and IBM. Excellent presentation, communication and interpersonal skills. Education Master's Degree in Library Science required. Certification and Licensure Membership in the Academy of Health Information Professionals of the Medical Library Association desirable. Work Experience A minimum of six (6) years as librarian in medical or science library required. Management experience, preferred. - or - Any equivalent combination of Education and/or Experience
