Job Description
The Bibliographer for Asian Languages and Studies is a temporary (four year) grant-funded position with the possibility for an extension. This appointment is at the instructor level and reports to the faculty director for Collection Development. This position focuses on developing collections in Asian languages for digital and traditional materials using grant funds and other assigned allocations. Additional responsibilities include managing funds and related gifts or grants and providing support for collection management needs. As appropriate, this position will provide instruction and reference services for Asian languages and studies and will participate in special projects. Some travel may be involved. The successful candidate will serve as liaison with the East Asian Languages and Civilizations Department and the Center for Asian Studies. In coordination with the faculty director for Collection Development, this position works collaboratively with the Asian Studies librarian who reports to the Reference and Instructional Services Department.

Appointment and Salary: Salary will be $42,000 - $50,000, depending on qualifications. Benefits include 22 working days of vacation, ten paid holidays, liberal sick leave, university group health plans, group life insurance, and TIAA/CREF retirement/annuity.Requirements: Master's degree from an ALA-accredited library school and superior language skills in Japanese or Chinese, an ability to work in a collaborative/cooperative environment, and strong interpersonal skills along with effective oral and written communication skills. Preferred qualifications: Working knowledge of additional Asian languages; some experience in collection development, particularly the Asian book and serial trade; a higher degree in Asian Studies or related area; working knowledge of electronic databases, information technology, and/or scholarly communication.
