Job Description

Full-time 12-month staff position (hours to be determined by the needs of the library) Reports to the Director of Libraries and the Director of Technology. Working in the library means being “on the move”: we will stand, walk, crouch, stoop, squat, twist, reach, crawl, climb, push/pull up to 50 pounds, and lift up to 25 pounds. Student/Faculty Support: Assist students and faculty in locating materials in the library. Assist students and faculty in using the Internet and other online resources for research. Gather materials on specific subjects based on teacher requests. Library/Collection Maintenance: Maintain library catalog, patron records, and circulation of library materials. Compile overdue notices, circulation reports, bills and monthly usage statistics for libraries, labs, and online resources. Order books and other library materials for the collection. Process new books and magazines in a timely manner. Assist with interlibrary loan and maintenance of interlibrary loan records. Ensure the collection is inviting, well-maintained, and accessible through regular shelving, weeding, and shelf-reading. Help provide attractive and informative signage for the collection. Maintain library web presence by updating links, uploading promotional material, and keeping the content current and inviting. Conduct an annual inventory of materials and AV equipment. Catalog, barcode, and prepare new technology equipment (e.g., DVD players, projectors, document cameras, etc.) for use. Keep current inventory list of LCD projectors and their locations. Technological Duties: Assist Upper School Technology Coordinator with Freshman Seminar class throughout the school year. Substitute for Lower School, Middle School, and Upper School Technology classes as needed. Troubleshoot computers, printers, and copiers as needed. Maintain toner inventory and recycling program. Know how to use and instruct students and faculty on how to use the various cameras, recorders, netbooks, and other equipment circulated by the library. Know how to use and guide students and faculty on how to use the programs and software installed on the school computers. Administrative Duties: Open and/or close the library as needed. Walk to Carolyn Smith Center and other buildings twice daily to pick up and deliver mail. Maintain filing system for library/technology documents, forms, and budget related items. Maintain adequate library supplies. Work with the Director of Libraries and the Director of Technology to monitor the budget. Maintain library and technology budgets using a spreadsheet and reconcile monthly. Track technology and library orders from placement through completion, including payment, working closely with the business office and vendors. Assist technology department with the set-up and maintenance of the school-wide resource scheduling software. Assist with administering the Advanced Placement exams in May. Maintain Scantron card inventory and bill departments for materials used. Assist in Raether Library as needed. Support the school community by serving on committees as assigned and volunteering for and performing other duties to support the whole school as needed. Explore and utilize professional development opportunities as it relates to the library/technology departments by attending and presenting at conferences, workshops, and meetings. Other duties as assigned. Supervision: Supervise library volunteers, students, library computer usage, and the library’s physical space.
