Job Description

The University of Colorado Boulder Libraries invites applications from innovative and enthusiastic service-oriented professionals for the position of temporary Art and Architecture Librarian. The temporary Art and Architecture Librarian participates as a member of the Research and Instruction Department team. Duties include general and specialized reference in the social sciences and humanities; virtual reference; instruction services and classroom teaching as part of an active library instruction program; and selecting library materials in the areas of art, art history, architecture, and environmental design. This position serves as the primary liaison to the Art and Art History Department and the College of Architecture and Planning and assumes primary responsibility for the development and delivery of research and instructional services for students and faculty in these units. The art librarian supports the integration of new technologies into the department of Research and Instruction and actively participates in departmental policy planning and delivery of services. The Research and Instruction Department provides general reference and instructional services to the students and faculty of the University of Colorado Boulder and specializes in services and collections for the social sciences and humanities. This position currently reports to the head of the Research and Instruction Department. Following a Libraries-wide reorganization currently underway, this position will report to the head of a proposed Humanities Department. Appointment and Salary: The successful candidate will be appointed for 7-8 months as a temporary, full-time lecturer with the possibility of renewal. Anticipated start date is October 1, 2011. Salary will be $3,000 per month. The option of participating in the University group health care plan is included. This is a temporary position without funding to support relocation.

Requirements: Master's degree from an ALA-accredited library school completed or in progress; experience or education in the area of art, art history, architecture, or a related field; a commitment to teaching and the library's instructional role in undergraduate education; demonstrated ability to work in a team environment; flexibility and positive outlook in times of transition; strong interpersonal skills; effective oral and written communication skills. Desirable Qualifications: One or more years of experience in providing library services to undergraduates; classroom teaching experience; virtual and in-person reference experience; collection development experience; familiarity with social networking as an outreach tool.
