Job Description

1.Leads the Public Services Department, including development of overall strategy, tactical objectives, and planning for deployment of resources. Responsible for cross-departmental coordination of activities. Heads public services leadership team. 2.Directs the implementation of new public service initiatives. 3.Serves as a member of the Library’s leadership team which is responsible for developing, revising and accomplishing the Library’s strategic and annual tactical plans. Representing the Public Services Department, the Director attends all leadership meetings including planning retreats. 4.Works directly with all the Executive Leadership Team members to develop strategy, resolve operational issues, and assist with the achievement of the Library’s vision. 5.Serves as acting Executive Director in the Executive Director’s absence. 6.Handles wide variety of operational details surrounding the running of the public services aspects of a main/branch/outreach services of the Library system. Delegates tasks, fields questions/complaints, chairs meetings and prepares supporting communications and reports. 7.Establishes standards of performance and appropriate workload criteria for jobs throughout the Public Services Department. 8.Makes recommendations to the Executive Director regarding administrative and operational issues that require consultation. 9.Guides development of direct reports and entire public services management team. Assists in development of personal action plans and individual development plans. Serves as a mentor to Library staff. Evaluates, hires, fires, etc. 10.Coordinates, initiates and approves paperwork and documentation to assure proper fiscal and regulatory control. 11.Spokesperson responsible for delivering the Library’s message to internal and external customers. 12.Leads and co-chairs major strategic initiatives through project management. 13.Utilizes computer applications and library equipment, maintains current knowledge of system wide and location specific procedures, processes, policies and operations. Utilizes e-mail and voicemail to maintain open channels of communication. 14.Performs additional duties as assigned including serving on task forces, committees, etc.
