Job Description

Location: Books & Borrowing Department, Central Library, 13th & Broadway Status/Schedule: Regular, full-time, 40 hours per week. The schedule will be determined by the needs of the department and will include evening and weekend hours. Salary Range: $19.30 - $24.11 per hour starting salary range; $19.30 - $30.78 per hour full salary range Background Information: Become a Librarian in Books & Borrowing and join an exciting and developing department at Denver Public Library’s Central branch. The successful candidate will demonstrate passion and innovation in providing exemplary customer service to the public. Duties and Responsibilities: Creates positive experiences for library customers on the floor and in the stacks by performing professional library work, including roving reference and readers advisory services. Coordinates with the Books & Borrowing team and other departments to maintain and facilitate access to nonfiction, fiction and international language adult print collections. Actively markets the collection through displays, blogs, and other channels. Serves a diverse clientele of all ages. Provides outreach to adults in the community through various approved opportunities, which may include work with Mobile Services. Communicates effectively about issues and initiatives with customers, coworkers, and supervisors. Knowledge, Skills and Abilities: Knowledge of collection maintenance and basic reference skills. Skill in interpreting, communicating, and presenting information, both orally and in writing. Skill in using various technologies. Ability to organize materials and information. Ability to thrive working in a changing environment with public contact, providing service to people from all backgrounds and age groups. Ability to demonstrate a positive attitude, excellent interpersonal skills, cultural sensitivity, and a sense of humor in working with customers, coworkers, and community. Ability to creatively solve problems, negotiate, and handle stressful situations in a positive manner. Ability to multi-task and prioritize. Ability to demonstrate innovation and flexibility. Ability to stand for extended periods of time, push full carts of materials and lift up to 25 pounds. Spanish language fluency is a plus. Experience: Experience in providing high volume, innovative library service preferred. Spanish language fluency is a plus. Education: Master’s in Library Science from an ALA accredited institution.
