Job Description

This full-time SCBOCES contract position serves the staff and offenders in a medium-security Colorado Department of Corrections facility library. The individual selected to fill this position will have an outstanding opportunity to make a difference as a librarian and impact patrons' lives. An average of 92% of the SCF offender population uses the library. Under the direction of a Librarian II, be a member of a 6-person team that supervises the daily operation of a busy library providing public/school-type (not law) library service to adult male offenders and DOC personnel. The duties include: provide reference and information services; provide readers' advisory services; hire, train, and supervise offender library assistants; perform library computer functions using the automated library management system (date entry, circulation, catalog maintenance, and printed reports); monitor the behavior of offender patrons.

Additional Info & Requirements

Two years general library experience OR two years of college coursework, including twelve (12) semester hours of library science courses is preferred. A year of college coursework with six (6) semester hours of library science courses may substitute for a year of library experience. Special consideration will be given to applicants with the following qualifications: strong service orientation; excellent organizational and interpersonal skills; flexibility; and strong computer skills in a Windows environment and with MS Office Professional.

Must be at least 21 years of age. Must successfully complete the DOC Basic Training Academy coursework in Canon City, including lecture/exam, a physical self-defense component, and American Heart Assoc. certification. Application process includes a urinalysis and background investigation for clearance to work in a correctional facility. No correctional knowledge or experience is required.
