Job Description

The Arapahoe Library District seeks a creative, change hardy team player with superior communication skills to manage library services of the Castlewood, Koelbel and Southglen libraries and lead the development of information services of the Library District. Reporting to the Director of Library Services the successful applicant will work closely with a team of managers also managing multiple facilities and system wide functions. Established in 1966, in recent years ALD has implemented substantial service improvements including: • Full range of self-service conveniences for customers • ALD Answers, a full service call center • Proactive service and roving reference • Best seller Xpress borrowing • Book a Librarian unit • Floating collections • Answer Squad, text reference unit engaging teens • Developed a website that glorifies reading, listening and viewing our collections • Developed technological competencies and performance expectations for floor staff, to ensure they may assist an increasingly techno-literate clientele • Designated early childhood literacy a signature service of ALD. Location: Responsible for the management of the Koelbel, Castlewood and Southglenn libraries. Will divide time between these locations and others as necessary. Starting Salary: Starting at $59,296 per year, dependent on qualifications, plus benefits. Hours: Full-time, exempt level, managerial position. Role: Manages the operations of multiple libraries and one or more Library District wide service functions. Major Duties and Responsibilities: 35% SERVICE MANAGEMENT Sets standards for the operation of the unit, develops concepts, practices, techniques and innovations to improve the quality of service, challenges operating processes for greater efficiency and effectiveness, and facilitates problem solving in order to manage the service operation of libraries and departments. 25% OPERATIONS CONTROL Sets goals for the organizational unit(s), establishes timelines for completion, and monitors achievement by reviewing reports from staff and Finance in order to control operations and achieve desired outputs and outcomes for libraries and departments. 25% SUPERVISORY PERFORMANCE MANAGEMENT Sets performance objectives for direct report Supervisors, observes and documents performance, rewards and disciplines performance, and recommends adjustments to pay in order to manage the pay and performance of supervisory personnel and their direct reports. 10% RESOURCE MANAGEMENT Supports direct report Supervisors by arranging for budget, staff and other resources in order to provide the necessary resources to accomplish the work of libraries and departments. 5% BACK UP Performs the duties of Supervisors in their absence to ensure the proper functioning of libraries and departments. OPERATIONS CONTROL Achievement of desired outputs and outcomes for libraries and departments. 4. SUPERVISOR PERFORMANCE MANAGEMENT Effective performance management of Supervisors. 5. RESOURCE MANAGEMENT Effective allocation of resources. 6. BACK-UP Effective performance of duties Supervisor absences.

Additional Info & Requirements

Equivalent to a college degree and a professional certificate or a graduate degree. Management aptitude, including management education and experience; leadership skills; responsibility for outcomes; personal productivity; practical thinking; adaptability; coaching; interpersonal skills; and, business ethics, required. Intermediate software skills, including Windows, Word, Internet Explorer, Outlook, and Millennium, required. Success in effectively leading teams and operations, required. The Community

Established in 1966, the Arapahoe Library District serves more than 200,000 residents living in Arapahoe County. Arapahoe County and other major suburban counties make up the greater metropolitan area surrounding Denver, Colorado. The Arapahoe Library District operates eight branch libraries, an Outreach Service that provides mobile library services, and a library at the County Detention Center, funded by the Arapahoe County Sheriff's Department. A seven-member Board of Trustees sets the library budget and determines policy.
