Job Description

The Auraria Library, serving the University of Colorado Denver, Downtown Denver Campus; Metropolitan State College of Denver; and the Community College of Denver, seeks a dynamic, energetic, and innovative individual to serve as the Web and Content Developer. This exempt professional position, reporting to the Associate Director for Technology Strategy and Learning Spaces, will provide in house web and interface design expertise for the Auraria Library. The Auraria Library's web presence consists of the main site (http://library.auraria.edu/), the mobile site (http://m.library.auraria.edu/) and discovery systems (http://library.auraria.edu/search/node/discovery%20systems) such as a federated searching application, intranet, institutional repository, catalog, reserves and interlibrary loan systems. The incumbent will work closely with the Web Programmer and others throughout the library to make the web site more visually appealing and develop a content management plan to develop high quality content for the site. The incumbent is responsible for creating website templates and layouts, producing graphic elements, and web development and maintenance. The incumbent will lead accessibility, usability and quality assurance activities in relation to the library's online interfaces and write and develop web policies. It is possible that this position may supervise students who perform web work. Examples of Work Performed: * Produce a web content plan. This would involve investigating optimal plans and permissions and developing a detailed plan or handbook for development, submission and vetting of content. * Produce several professional level website designs for consideration for upgrade. * Perform usability studies for a new site. This includes research study design, writing and submitting a plan to the IRB of three schools, knowledge of qualitative and quantitative data analysis, execution of focus groups and studies using specialized software such as Morae. * Produce professional content and graphics for the web site using software such as Photoshop. A high level of graphics expertise would be needed to produce professional level work. * Serve on a Communication Committee. This committee is responsible for branding, marketing and all external focused Library communication through web, brochures, in-person and press. * Create Drupal content types and web pages. This requires knowledge of Drupal/Content Management development, site architecture and organization. Some knowledge of database organization and developing custom modules in Drupal would be advantageous. * Create Web page templates using HTML and CSS. * Act as a project manager for a web project. This would include setting goals, breaking the project into pieces and assignments and monitoring progress. Would use a project management application and be responsible for communicating to the library and users about project progress. * Act as an expert on web accessibility. This requires knowledge of federal accessibility standards and guidelines as well as current accessibility applications for testing. * Produce original graphic elements which would require Photoshop (or other similar software), artistic and design skills. A knowledge of color theory and multimedia design would be used.
