Cesar Chavez Academy - Denver JOB DESCRIPTION POSITION: Tutor RESPONSIBLE TO: SFA Coordinator DESCRIPTION SUMMARY: Abides by and supports the vision, mission, values, policies and procedures of Cesar Chavez Academy Denver. Under general supervision, tutors ten to fifteen students daily, assists with one daily ninety minute reading class with students in grades K through 8, assists in other school programs as assigned, and works with a flexible program and environment favorable to learning and personal growth in accordance with each student's ability. Tutors the adopted curriculum to assigned students while maintaining a safe, orderly, and positive teaching environment. QUALIFICATIONS 1. High school diploma Required, Bachelor’s degree preferred. 2. Demonstrated effective written and verbal communication skills. 3. Demonstrated autonomy, organization, assertiveness and flexibility in performing job responsibilities. 4. Ability to assess, evaluate, and recommend entrance/exit into the CCAD Tutoring and ability based Success for All Program. 5. Demonstrated ability to exercise a high level of tact and discretion in both internal and external interactions. Ability to work as a team member. Ability to create and maintain good working relationships with a variety of internal and external constituents. 6. Proficiency in Microsoft Office, Word, Excel and email interaction. 7. Must possess a valid identification document (i.e. driver’s license issued by the state of Colorado) 8. Ability to work collaboratively with teachers, students, and administration. JOB DUTIES / KNOWLEDGE PERFORMANCE 1, 2, 3, 4 Equals 85% 1. Teach the adopted SFA tutoring curricula and an ability leveled class for 90 minutes for assigned students so that desired student outcome is attained. Modify and tailor the curriculum as necessary to address individual student differences, learning styles, and student abilities. 2. Tutor using a standards-based model that addresses the performance levels, learning styles, abilities and various backgrounds of students so that each student may attain or exceed the expectations and standards established by the Board of Directors. 3. Use effective tutoring practices 4. Assess the learning, achievement, and performance of each student and report the results as required by school procedures. A report shall be issued to the homeroom teacher, reading teacher and the parents at the completion of each ten session tutoring cycle 5% 5,6,7 5. Maintain positive, professional working relationships with students. 6. Maintain an orderly, positive learning environment free from disruptive behavior by implementing proactive behavior management strategies and enforcing the Student Conduct Code. 10% 8-16 7. Instruct with adopted tutoring program with appropriate assigned media and technology 8. Cooperates in school-wide supervision of students during out-of-classroom activities. 9. Implement assigned portions of students’ Individualized Education Programs (IEP) and utilize the Response To Intervention (RtI) process 10. Additional job requirements: a. Assure the safety and welfare of students including necessary actions to insure that students are supervised at all times. b. Submit required reports promptly at the times specified. c. Demonstrate care of and protection of School property. d. Report suspected child abuse or neglect as required by law. e. Adhere to Staff Rules of Conduct. f. Dress in a professional manner as specified in Policy. g. Use the CCA-Denver Internet and E-mail system as specified in Policy. h. Enforce the Student Dress Code. 11. Participates cooperatively with the appropriate administrator to develop the method by which he/she will be evaluated in conformance with district guidelines. 12. Participates in faculty committees and the sponsorship of student activities. 13. Be familiar with and abide by all applicable Federal and Colorado laws and regulations; Board of Education policies and CCA-Denver regulations, as amended from time to time; and school procedures that relate to employment with CCA-Denver. 14. To the extent feasible, foster student skills for life-long learning including: reading and writing skills, use of learning resources including library skills, computer applications and use of technological resources, contextual skills (applications of the knowledge and skills students acquire), career and job awareness including connections with the business community, and creative thinking, expression and problem solving. 15. Maintain religious neutrality when teaching or engaged in activities with students. Adhere to Policy with regard to teaching about religion and religious holidays 16. Adhere to Policy requirements for purchasing supplies, materials or equipment at school expense. In addition to duties here, the employee agrees to: work actively with parents, in the community; participate in after school and evening conferences on a schedule that accommodates parents; assist with the TCAP tutoring; serve on school based committees as assigned, and regularly attend after school meetings and evening and weekend school events whenever possible and as directed by the President of the Board of Directors. The employee shall attend and actively participate in major Cesar Chavez Academy Denver functions and events throughout the year. The Employee will have other additional duties as assigned.
