Job Description

Responsibilities: This full-time State of Colorado IT Technician II classified position is responsible for providing audio/video support to classrooms, managing the recycling of equipment, providing workstation support, supporting web work and providing support library technology checkout support. This position will serve as the liaison between the library and the IT Services Department. Specific duties include setting-up, installing and maintaining computer workstations; arranging for disposal of old hardware; utilizing Symantec ghost to create images; managing new student employee network accounts; providing technical support to the technology helpdesk; creating training documents; providing support to two classrooms which includes keeping computers up-to-date with software versions, evaluating software requests, installing software, and coordinating setup and teardown of classrooms to accommodate special events; and assisting with special projects. This position requires thorough knowledge of hardware and software with the ability to install and configure computers; knowledge of Microsoft and Macintosh operating systems; experience with virus/malware removal; and the ability to effectively troubleshoot problems with workstations, laptops, networking products, printers, scanners, media drives and other computing equipment. The candidate must have the ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with other employees, students, staff, and end-users; act as a team player with the ability to work independently; and be able to organize work, set priorities and meet critical time deadlines. Excellent oral and written communication skills are essential as well as the ability to maintain emotional control under stress and maintain a positive attitude when dealing with end-users. The position may require occasional prolonged and irregular hours, daily lifting and carrying of heavy objects (45+ pounds) and walking, standing, bending, stooping and/or climbing for the majority of a day. Starting Salary Range: $3728.00 - $4141.00/month* (non-negotiable) *Compensation: The salary offered is usually the minimum listed, however, a salary above the minimum may be offered for some hard to fill positions. Minimum Requirements: Graduation from an accredited college or university with an associate's degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, Computer Engineering, Management Information or in a related field AND two years of experience troubleshooting and repairing desktop computer problems and performing in a technical customer service capacity in an IT environment. Substitution: Technical experience that included troubleshooting and repairing desktop computer problems and performing in a technical customer service capacity may be substituted on a year-for-year basis for the associate's degree. A bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university in Computer Science, Information Systems, Computer Engineering, or Management Information, that included or provided coursework and experience involving hardware, software, and network troubleshooting, may be substituted for the required education and experience. Conditions of Employment: *Must be willing and able to perform physical activities including bending, stooping, standing, and kneeling for long periods of time. *Must be willing and able to occasionally adjust your schedule in order to meet the staffing needs of the department. *Must be willing and able to lift, carry and move items weighing up to 45+ pounds. Preferred Qualifications: *A Bachelors degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, Computer Networking or a related field *Experience setting-up, troubleshooting and repairing computer hardware and software problems. *Experience formatting, installing the OS and updating computers and software programs *Experience supporting web-based applications *Experience with Windows Server 2003 and Active Directory *Experience setting up new computers, printers, laptops, and other IT devices *Experience HMTL, CSS, and PHP *Experience providing administrative assistance to faculty, staff and students within in a higher education and/or in a higher education library environment. *Ability to communicate effectively in written form which includes the ability to check for typographical, grammatical and spelling errors. Competencies: *Ability to interpret complex rules, regulations, policies, procedures, and guidelines. *Experience that demonstrates strong interpersonal and customer service skills with the ability to establish rapport with persons of diverse backgrounds which also includes experience working with students, staff, and faculty, within a higher education and/or library environment. *Must possess a professional demeanor and have experience that demonstrates problem solving skills and the ability to manage multiple tasks and work independently with minimal supervision. *The successful candidate will be detail oriented, self-motivated, a fast learner and possess excellent time management, organizational, written and verbal communication skills. *Ability to take direction and use independent judgment to coordinate various projects and meet multiple deadlines.
