Job Description

POSITION SUMMARY: Reports to: Chief Academic Officer. Direct supervision of DLMC staff. Indirect supervision of library media specialists assigned to individual schools. Provides leadership, staff development and assistance to Library Media Specialist and appropriate administrators by developing, recommending, implementing, and monitoring plans and programs related to the overall library media program. Supervises District Library Media Center (DLMC) staff and oversees operations of the District Library Media Center. ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES: Provide leadership, guidance, and support to library media personnel and administrators in the implementation of library media programs based on evidence-based practice, 21st century skills integration, DCSD and department strategic plans. Perform or assist in supervisory activities: hires/mentors/disciplines; staffing design; professional development activities; evaluations; terminations. Provide input into related activities for school based librarians. Develop, implement and monitor current library media curriculum/programming to ensure District standards are met, including standards for use of state of the art automated library system and purchases of district-wide online information. Provide leadership, guidance and support to District Library Media center staff in the maintenance of a high level of service to District schools and staff. Develop, implement, enhance and assess appropriate standards-based curriculum. Act as content expert in the presentation of library media services, resources, best practice, policies and procedures among parents, community, and staff. Guide the design and stocking of new school library media centers, as well as coordinate the overall collection development of all District libraries. Conduct presentations on library media services, resources, best practices, policies and procedures. Serve as liaison to District Stakeholders, constituents, and local and State agencies, regarding library media programming and initiatives, ensuring accountability and monitoring processes in place. Establish relevant partnerships to enhance provision of services. Perform long- range planning strategies, including budget preparation and monitoring, and determining staff needs. Work directly with vendors to negotiate discounted pricing on library resources and supplies. Develop/prepare grant proposals, monitoring grant funding and maintain grant documentation for federal/state reporting. Perform other related duties as assigned or requested. Observes all District policies and procedures SKILLS REQUIREMENTS: Verbal and written communication skills in English and a demonstrated ability to read and comprehend written/graphic and oral instructions. Knowledge of 21st century skills integration and instructional technology. Knowledge of strategic planning. Ability to manage budgets and negotiate contracts. Working knowledge of computer applications (current library software programs). Advanced leadership/supervisory skills. Advanced library curriculum programming and facility design. Excellent oral and written communication skills. Excellent facilitation skills (adult, student, community). Excellent problem solving, organizational and analytical skills, including budget oversight. Ability to work effectively as a member of multiple teams. GENERAL EXPECTATIONS: Is flexible. Additional Info & Requirements

MINIMUM EXPERIENCE: Three (3) years experience in Teaching and Education required. Experience in 21st Century technology integration and instruction required. Three (3) to five (5) years’ experience in School library Media Administration preferred.
