Job Description

The University of Northern Colorado seeks an energetic, innovative individual with a commitment to serving library user needs for the position of User Experience Reference Librarian/Webmaster and Assistant Professor of University Libraries, position number F99903. The focus of this newly configured position is to ensure a successful online experience for all library users. It is a contract-renewable position that reports to the Head of Reference Services. As a member of the Reference Department, the person in this position provides in-person and online reference service. This individual collaborates with members of the Reference Department and others across the University Libraries to identify and assess new technologies for delivery of reference service and library instruction. As User Experience Librarian, this person works closely with the individuals responsible for digital initiatives and online access to the Libraries’ resources to produce a seamless online library experience; evaluates the Libraries’ website by undertaking usability studies and analyzing usage of the website; collaborates with library faculty and staff to integrate appropriate technologies into the Libraries’ online environment to improve library services and instruction; and monitors trends related to the web and library technologies. As the Libraries’ webmaster, the person is responsible for developing and maintaining the Libraries’ website in accordance with university standards. The successful candidate must have a strong service orientation, outstanding interpersonal and communication skills, and the ability to work both independently and in a team environment. The person in this position may contribute to library instruction and/or collection development. Some evening and weekend work is required of this position.

Additional Info & Requirements

REQUIRED: Earned Master’s degree from an ALA-accredited library school or program; experience providing both in-person and online reference services; proficiency with HTML and cascading style sheets; experience with web design. PREFERRED: Experience working with a course management system; experience using social networking/web 2.0 tools, including mobile applications in an educational context; experience with video/screen capture technology; experience using web development applications, such as Dreamweaver, javascript or other scripting languages; experience conducting website usability studies; experience with the III integrated library system.
