Job Description

The primary duties for this position are: Being responsible for cataloging library material in all formats. Perform original cataloging when necessary. Monitor functionality and accuracy of the catalog, and the cataloging and serials modules. Identify problems, investigate potential solutions and report problems appropriately. Perform all aspects of serials control, including, check in, claiming, catalog updates and coordinate and oversee processing weeding. Coordinate and oversee some technical services activities including 1) receiving new material shipments and verifying accuracy 2) processing and repairing materials 3) bindery operations 4) materials withdrawal and disposal 5) new book displays 6) organizing and labeling periodical shelving. Hire, train and oversee student work-studies and student hourly staff. Assist with compiling and preparing records and reports, including collection statistics, financial paperwork, and other reports as required. Assist patrons with circulation: check out books, return books to the collection, place holds, renew books, register new patrons, update library cards and patron records, college monies for overdue fines, lost items, printing etc. Processes overdues, checks item computer records, checks shelves, mails reminders. Updates patron overdue records, shelves books and other materials, and shelf reads the collection as needed. Answers directional type questions to assist patrons, refers reference questions to librarian on duty. Picks up and sorts library’s daily mail.

HIGHLY DESIREABLES: Highly experienced using Horizon Library Software. Excellent customer service skills. Prior experience working in an academic (college/university) library setting. Ability to adapt and change easily in a busy department. Experience working with Microsoft Office products including Word, Excel, Access, Outlook and Adobe products. Experience working with automated databases. Excellent verbal and written communication skills. Attention to detail. Organizational skills. Ability to multitask and be a self-starter.
