Job Description
Background Information: This branch serves as an educational and cultural resource for the people of Denver and the world, focusing on the history, literature, art, music, religion and politics of African Americans in Colorado and throughout the Rocky Mountain West. Duties and Responsibilities: Creates positive experiences for library customers by preparing and presenting informational and educational materials, courses, lectures, and in service instruction for children and adults. Conducts subject research, documentation, tours and storytimes. Provides services, program and/or outreach activities designed to educate and promote library usage with emphasis on children’s services. Provides other library services designed to enhance the lives of a diverse customer base. Knowledge, Skills and Abilities: Knowledge of training and development practices. Knowledge of library operations, research resources and reader guidance information to be able to assist customers in location of collection materials and obtaining interlibrary loan services. Skill in designing, preparing, training, implementing and evaluating professional instruction and training programs. Skill in communicating and establishing effective working relationships with employees, volunteers, organizations and the public. Skill in presenting information to groups of adults or children. Skill in reading aloud clearly, concisely and with expression. Skill in exercising initiative, judgment, and decision making in solving problems and meeting organizational objectives. Ability to exercise initiative, judgment, and decision making in solving problems and meeting organizational objectives. Ability to relate to the needs of patrons of all ages. Ability to thrive working in an environment with constant public contact with people from all backgrounds and age groups. Ability to research and compile information. Ability to make appropriate choices of materials for programming and outreach. Experience: Two years of experience teaching or presenting information in a variety of situations and settings. General computer literacy, including experiences with Internet and database searching. Education: Bachelor’s degree in related field. Special Requirements: A background check must be passed after the offer to hire has been made. Must have a valid Colorado driver’s license.
