Job Description

20% Liaisons with Russian community groups and facilitates partnerships with other community service agencies by meeting with representatives and encouraging community participation in the library in order to promote use of library services to Russian language patrons. 20% Selects library materials in Russian by researching vendors, previewing materials, negotiating prices, preparing purchase order requests, and reviewing invoices for accuracy; and, advises on the cataloging and processing of such materials by creating guidelines in order to make collections of materials in Russian available to Library District patrons. 25% Produces library programs for Russian speaking patrons by assessing needs, developing or coordinating English language programs and services for non-English speakers, and evaluating results in order to promote English literacy and the use of library resources. 10% Serves patrons by translating library programs and materials, and researching genre and format areas in order to satisfy patron requests for materials and programs in Spanish or Russian. 15% Prepares lists of materials and identifies links to other websites by researching patron interests in order to supply content for the website. 10% Develops the knowledge, skill and ability of paraprofessional staff by mentoring them in order expand their ability to service patron requests.

The Community

The Arapahoe Library District, a public library system serving more than 200,000 residents living in Arapahoe County. Arapahoe County and other major suburban counties make up the greater metropolitan area surrounding Denver, Colorado. The Arapahoe Library District operates eight branch libraries, an Outreach Service that provides mobile library services, and a library at the County Detention Center, funded by the Arapahoe County Sheriff's Department. A seven-member Board of Trustees sets the library budget and determines policy.
