Job Description
General Summary Position is responsible for performing various duties related to the support of library patrons and to the active participation in improving the overall effectiveness and continuing innovation of library services. Responsibilities -Develops, delivers and evaluates library-related instruction to contribute to the library's instruction program and campus information literacy initiatives. -Staffs reference desk serving community college and public patrons approximately 15 20 hours per week; primarily nights and Saturdays as assigned. -Provides reference/research assistance to library patrons in a variety of formats, which may include one-to-one in person assistance, interactive web based assistance, and development of print or electronic materials and resources to educate college patrons on locating and evaluating information. -Collaborates with faculty and other staff to promote awareness of library materials, inform faculty about how to use library materials effectively in class assignments, and to develop imbedded library instruction within college coursework. -Develops library outreach efforts by collaborating with new campus groups, promoting active use of the library and developing displays and exhibits that foster student learning and a sense of community. -Collaborates with library staff to develop public services plans, policies and procedures to support the Library. -When appropriate, serves as the functional lead of library operations, including but not limited to, supervision of work studies and part time hourly employees in all library departments. -Participates with College Hill Library (CHL) professional staff in decision-making regarding collection development. -Participates with CHL staff in the development and implementation of strategic planning for library innovation. -Prepares or assists in the preparation of various reports, including monthly activity reports. -Serves on relevant library and college committees. -Performs other duties as assigned.Additional Info & Requirements
Master's Degree in Library Science from an ALA accredited college/university. Professional or practicum library reference and instruction experience required. Must be willing to work a flexible schedule primarily nights and weekends as assigned. Knowledge and understanding of computer applications, Internet, and various library databases. Knowledge of library principles and procedures. Good communication, interpersonal skills as applied to interaction with coworkers, supervisor, the general public, etc. sufficient to exchange or convey information and to receive work direction. Knowledge and understanding of diversity and ability to work with a diverse college community. At least one year of professional librarian experience preferred. Experience in a community college working with students and with faculty preferred.The Community
