Job Description
The Reference and Instruction Librarian is a 12-month full-time, exempt position reporting to the Library Director. This individual will join a team of three librarians in a growing academic library that serves approximately 1,000 traditional undergraduates and 4,000 non-traditional adult and distance learners. The library is a creative and friendly environment that focuses on excellent service and collegial support. We are a flexible team that embraces new technology and user demands. The successful candidate will seek to participate in similar endeavors and will have strong collaboration skills, flexibility and will participate in implementing academic standards in a liberal arts library. A strong commitment to teamwork, collegial support, desire to participate in a consortial library environment, interest in learning and applying appropriate technologies, and the ability to maintain effective relationships with faculty, students, and the community are critical. This position’s primary responsibilities are reference, instruction, and collection development. Other areas of responsibility may include electronic resources management, creating and maintaining online tutorials and online subject guides, and building a liaison relationship with the CCU faculty. This position will work one night/week. Saturday hours may be needed. Duties and Responsibilities: -Provide reference service and bibliographic instruction, including IM Chat service and one hour/week of the statewide AskAcademic Virtual Reference Service (Colorado State Library). -Participate in collection management for your assigned subject areas of the library (stay current on curriculum and courses in your area, review course syllabi, select, order and weed titles, and prepare collection reports if requested). -Assist with electronic resources management. -Stay abreast of current trends and technologies; become comfortable with tools and software used by the library and the university. -Support colleagues in designing Library outreach that combines personalized service and new technology; use LibGuides to create and maintain your subject and other guides; PowerPoint, Captivate, and other technology to create library videos. -Support the atmosphere of academic excellence through appropriate research activities, professional development and service, continuing education, and/or community involvement. -Serve on a faculty committee and an external consortial committeeAdditional Info & Requirements
Required: -Effective written and oral communication and strong interpersonal skills. -1-3 years library experience, preferably in an academic library (could include paraprofessional, internship, practicum, etc.) -Self-motivated, flexible, and willing to work in a changing environment. -Willingness to tackle tasks that may be above or below your pay grade. -Familiarity with professional issues, trends, and technology in academic librarianship. Preferred: -Experience with bibliographic instruction, reference (both in person and online), collection management, and the Millennium ILS. -Familiarity with creating subject guides using LibGuides or a similar product, course management software, and Camtasia or Captivate. -Supervisory experienceThe Community
