Job Description

Location: Community Technology Center, Central Library, 13th & Broadway Status/Schedule: Regular, full-time, 40 hours per week. The schedule will be determined by the needs of the department and may include evening and weekend hours. Salary Range: $19.09 - $23.48 per hour starting salary range; $19.09 - $27.88 per hour full salary range. Background Information: The Community Technology Center (CTC) is the technology access and training hub for Denver Public Library. The CTC is located on the 4th floor of the Central Library and currently consists of 2 technology classrooms, two one-on-one consultation rooms and a large public access computing area with 127 computers. In addition to offering a variety of technology classes at the Central Library, CTC staff also offer tech training at other DPL branches and at local community organizations. In Spring 2013, the CTC will be opening ideaLAB, a digital media lab for teens. Duties and Responsibilities: Creates lifelong library customers by implementing services designed for customers of all ages and backgrounds seeking computer instruction and use. Provides one-on-one and group training to customers and staff on the use of online resources and software. Develops and implements customer and staff technology training, instruction plans and materials. Staffs busy public service desk. Acts as a main point of contact for staff and customers seeking assistance with computers and technology. Communicates effectively with customers, staff, and administration. Works with other organizations to provide technology training at other locations in the community. Knowledge, Skills and Abilities: Knowledge of the web, technology, online trends, and commonly used software like Microsoft Office. Skill in designing, preparing and implementing instruction and training materials. Skill in training a wide variety of learners. Skill in problem solving, negotiating and handling stressful situations in a positive manner. Skill in troubleshooting software glitches. Skill in communicating and establishing effective working relationships with employees, volunteers, organizations and the public. Ability to demonstrate innovation and flexibility. Ability to provide excellent customer service. Ability to demonstrate positive attitude, excellent interpersonal skills, cultural sensitivity and a sense of humor in working with diverse customers, coworkers, and community. Ability to embrace the challenge of learning new tools and software. Ability to teach basic website development and/or digital media software is a plus. Experience: Two years of customer service experience required. One year of experience teaching or presenting information to a variety of audiences preferred. Education: Bachelor’s degree in a related field. Special Requirements: A background check must be passed after the offer to hire has been made. Spanish language skills strongly preferred.
