Job Description

Status/Schedule: Regular, full-time, 40 hours per week. The schedule will be determined by the needs of the department and may include evening and weekend hours. Salary Range: $17.47 - $21.49 per hour starting salary range; $17.47 – $25.50 per hour full salary range. The City and County of Denver benefit package will be offered. Background Information: The Community Technology Center (CTC) is the technology access and training hub for Denver Public Library. The CTC is located on the 4th floor of the Central Library and currently consists of a two technology classrooms, two one-on-one consultation rooms and a large public access computing area with 127 computers. In addition to offering a variety of technology classes at the Central Library, CTC staff also offer tech training at other DPL branches and local community organizations. In Spring 2013, the CTC will be opening ideaLAB, a digital media lab for teens. Duties and Responsibilities: Creates lifelong library customers by implementing services designed for customers of all ages seeking computer instruction and use. Staffs the CTC desk and assists people in using the Library’s public access computers. Answers technology-related questions. Works closely with staff and volunteers in the daily operations of the Central Library’s Community Technology Center. Assists customers with a wide range of technology needs including basic computing skills, downloading music and creating documents. Communicates effectively with customers, staff, and administration. Knowledge, Skills and Abilities: Knowledge of the Web, technology, online trends and popular culture. Knowledge of office practices and procedures. Skill in providing service to all ages and backgrounds. Skill in problem solving, negotiating and handling stressful situations in a positive manner. Skill in providing training. Skill in demonstrating excellent interpersonal skills and sensitivity to the needs of a diverse customer group. Skill in demonstrating innovation and flexibility. Skill in multi-tasking and prioritizing. Ability to provide excellent customer service Ability to bring a positive energy, excellent interpersonal skills, cultural sensitivity and a sense of humor to the workplace. Ability to thrive working in an environment with constant public contact and maintain positive staff relationships. Ability to troubleshoot and accurately report technology problems. Ability to utilize PC reservation and print release systems, online calendaring and circulation software. Ability to embrace the challenge of learning new tools, software and technology. Spanish language skills desirable. Experience: Two years of customer service experience required. Two years of technology support or training experience in a library preferred.
