Job Description

PREFERRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES IN THE FOLLOWING AREAS: Principles and practices of library circulation and reference resources including electronic resources Local, regional and national information resources and retrieval systems Principles of business writing and basic report preparation Principles and practices of marketing and outreach Methods and techniques of web design and on-line services Methods and techniques of system-wide training Principles and practices of children and young adult library services Independently perform complex library duties, including but not limited to acquisitions, cataloging, information retrieval, web design, digital resources, training, youth services and volunteer services coordination Perform analyses of patron service operations and recommend modifications, analyze problems and identify alternative solutions Establish and maintain effective working relationships with those contacted in the course of work The above is a generic Job Description for Senior Librarian. The functional descriptions of these two positions are: Senior Librarian Digital Services – research, evaluate, acquire and implement new digital, mobile and online services for the Library; primary contact with digital and online vendors.; update and enhance Library web presence, including LibGuide maintenance and training; monitor Library’s social media outlets; train Library staff on new and existing services. Senior Librarian Youth Services – plan, implement and direct Library programs for Every Child Ready to Read, Summer Reading, Read to the Dogs, Community Baby Showers, Leap Into Science and Early Literacy initiatives; plan and direct youth outreach services; coordinate outreach with Library partners; coordinate story times throughout the branches for consistency of service; train Library staff on new and existing services.
