Job Description

The Visiting Reference/Instruction Librarian is a temporary position available July 1, 2013 and ending on June 30, 2014, with a possibility of permanent funding thereafter. This Visiting Reference Librarian is responsible for teaching sessions in the Tiered Instruction program in coordination with Introductory Composition and Intermediate Composition courses. This Librarian is also shares responsibility with other reference librarians in staffing the reference desk, which provides opportunities for one-on-one teaching, 10-12 hours each week, including an evening shift. This Librarian teaches faculty requested bibliographic instruction sessions, assists in collection development work in associated liaison areas and performs special projects as assigned. Minimum Qualifications  ALA-accredited master’s degree in library or information science  Demonstrated ability to work independently and contribute as part of a team  Excellent oral, written and interpersonal communication skills  Experience demonstrating organizational and problem-solving skills  Proficiency in use of online search systems Preferred Qualifications  Library instruction experience, especially classroom teaching  Library reference experience or equivalent  Familiarity and ease with using and implementing new technologies Responsibilities  Teach sessions in the Library Instruction program in coordination with Introductory Composition and Intermediate Composition courses  Share responsibility with other reference librarians in staffing the reference desk, 10-12 hours each week, including an evening shift  Teach faculty requested bibliographic instruction sessions, as assigned  Investigate and implement emerging technologies useful to the organization  Assist in collection development work in areas to be determined  Member of the Reference/ Instruction Library Team  Member of the Librarians’ Council  Other duties as assigned
