Job Description

SENIOR LIBRARIAN Date Posted: June 7, 2013 Application Deadline: June 21, 2013 Location: Ross-University Hills Branch Library, 4310 E. Amherst Ave. at S. Birch St. Status/Schedule: Regular, full-time, 40 hours per week. The schedule will be determined by the needs of the department and may include evening and weekend hours. Salary Range: $22.31 - $29.00 per hour starting salary range; $22.31 - $35.69 per hour full salary range. The City and County of Denver benefit package will be offered. Background Info: Become a Senior Librarian at the Ross-University Hills Branch Library and bring a materials rich environment to customers of all ages. The key role of this branch’s service delivery is to meet the needs of the customer who is looking to the library to provide the newest and most popular materials as well as create programs for adults that inform and entertain. A strong emphasis is placed on providing materials and reference services in an efficient and merchandised environment. Duties and Responsibilities: Creates lifelong library customers by implementing and managing library services designed for customers of all ages seeking popular materials and quick service. Supervises daily operations of a branch location including personnel, scheduling and customer service issues. Oversees the design of engaging displays for all ages as well as the creation and implementation of cultural programs for adults. Works with a team of Senior Librarians and a Manager to develop, design, and implement both cluster specific and system-wide services. Communicates effectively about the Library, issues and initiatives with customers, staff, and administration. Knowledge, Skills and Abilities: Knowledge of library services for all ages. Knowledge of popular materials. Knowledge of current trends in adult programming and skill in bringing new, imaginative programs to the public. Skill in providing strong, passionate and compassionate leadership. Skill in the recruitment, selection, training and motivation of a brilliant staff. Skill in providing reference, reader’s and media advisory service to all ages. Skill in developing eye-catching display design and merchandizing of library materials. Ability to select, train, motivate and supervise professional and clerical staff. Ability to creatively solve problems, negotiate and handle stressful situations in a positive manner. Ability to create and maintain positive staff relationships. Ability to demonstrate positive attitude, excellent interpersonal skills, cultural sensitivity, and a sense of humor in working with customers, coworkers, and community. Ability to multi-task and prioritize. Ability to demonstrate innovation and flexibility. Experience: Two years of post-MLS professional-level work in a library. Education: A Master’s in Library Science from an ALA accredited institution. Special Requirements: A background check must be passed after the offer to hire has been made.
