Job Description

RMUoHP invites applicants for the position of Assistant Medical Librarian to join the Library/Resource Center in Provo, UT. This position is an entry-level position, and new MLS or MLIS graduates are encouraged to apply. Our library is seeking dynamic, energetic and service-oriented individuals interested in collaboration, teamwork, and innovation. The position is a 12-month, non-tenured, appointment with rank of Assistant Librarian, reporting to the Medical Librarian. The position performs primarily reference and instructional services with strengths in teaching, learning and student engagement. Under the guidance of the Medical Librarian, the Assistant Librarian creates online materials and online tutorials to explore, promote and implement opportunities for distance education students and instructors. The Assistant Librarian assists the Medical Librarian to support interdisciplinary education programs, health literacy classes, participating on the Library Committee and collaborating with members of the campus. This position assumes responsibility for the day-to-day operation of the library including Technical, Public Services, and Distance Learning. The Assistant Librarian is responsible for working with student assistants, ensuring the accuracy and timeliness of interlibrary loan and document delivery services. Reference service involves working with students, faculty, and staff in a wide range of subjects and individual consultations. This position also supports faculty in course preparation including copying necessary documents as needed. The Assistant Librarian is expected to evolve into a subject specialty librarian in one or more disciplines. The Assistant Librarian is expected to be highly computer literate and skilled in planning, organizing and executing complex tasks. The Assistant Librarian must use problem solving skills on technology and workflows, think independently in troubleshooting activities, and maintain high accuracy and attention to detail. Liaison duties include working with faculty to develop course-integrated instruction and providing reference support. The Assistant Librarian may serve on university committees and pursues professional and scholarly endeavors related to the position.
