Job Description

1. Provides excellent customer service and maintains a courteous, positive image of the library when interacting with patrons and staff 2. May act as “person-in-charge” (PIC) of the library as assigned; assumes responsibility for safe and effective operation of the library (including the initiation of emergency procedures as needed) and ensures that Security Incident Reports and Insurance Reports are completed properly and submitted in a timely manner 3. Maintains confidentiality in all patron and staff interactions 4. Will work a number of hours on public desks providing information service to walk-in and telephone patrons. 5. Assists and instructs patrons through material and on-line searches, computer software applications, community referrals, and outside sources/collections 6. Provides general assistance and information about the library’s services and procedures 7. Refers patrons and in-depth research questions to reference staff 8. Coordinates approximately 40 adult long-term volunteers and short-term student/scout volunteers. 9. Assists with Children’s programming, including story times, toddler time, book breaks and snuggle-up. 10. Coordinates monthly adult and children’s art displays and exhibits. 11. Represents PPLD at community outreach events. 12. May provide support for specialized projects, services, programs, and activities related to divisional goals and needs 13. May troubleshoot basic computer and office equipment problems 14. Performs other related duties as assigned

Additional Info & Requirements

Requires a minimum of one year of library experience or other public service work experience Requires intermediate-level proficiency using Microsoft software applications (specifically MS Word, Excel, Outlook); prefer candidates that can accurately type 45+ words per minute Requires excellent written and verbal communication skills, the ability to work in a team environment, a “whatever it takes” work ethic, and an excellent customer service attitude; bilingual ability is a plus in serving our diverse patrons.
