The CommunityThe district is a small, high performing school that is improving student achievement faster than state averages. Ridgway Secondary School opened a new 45,000 sq/ft building in the fall of 2006. A million dollar renovation of the elementary school was also completed around that time. The secondary curriculum has a diverse range of courses including Outdoor Education programs. The school district has also recently adopted an ISIP process (Individual Student Improvement Plan) that is well on its way to becoming an overall success. Professional learning and development is extremely important for teachers and staff to maintain, therefore the district calendar offers a number of days throughout the school year for continuing education for its staff. Ridgway is located at the base of the San Juan mountain range, therefore Ridgway is known as “The Gateway to the San Juans.” Ridgway offers an extraordinary amount of outdoor activities including skiing, snowmobiling, jeeping, waterskiing, fishing, hunting, mountain biking, hiking and so much more. Ridgway is between Ouray, known for their famous Hot Springs and Telluride, known for some of the best skiing in the country. Ridgway is one of the most beautiful places in all of Colorado with so much to offer. Although Ridgway is a rural town, traveling here is easier than most would think.
