Job Description

The City of Aurora is looking for a Library Assistant to provide high quality customer service primarily at the Tallyn’s Reach and Mission Viejo Libraries. This position may be assigned to take charge on a regular basis under the direction of the South Region Libraries Supervisor. The person will provide customers with general reference and account transaction assistance; develop and conduct library programs primarily for children and youth; and will work proactively on community outreach to build relationships that foster library awareness and form partnerships. Additional Info & Requirements

Experience: Two years public library experience highly preferred in each of the following areas but similar experience may be substituted and considered. Experience in overseeing customer service and daily operations of a small public library; experience in outreach or similar activities; experience with developing and conducting classes and programs; experience working with children and teens. Knowledge: Ability to use routine business software applications, including but not limited to, word processing, spreadsheets, presentation software, and databases. Abilities: Ability to present professionally, to include good public speaking skills, problem solving, research and provision of service enhancing suggestions within available resources. Good customer service skills and the ability to deal with stressful situations with tact and diplomacy; communicate effectively both verbally and in writing. Ability to work positively and effectively with staff, customers and the community. Must be able to work shifts that may include some evenings and weekends on a regular basis. Willingness to substitute on an occasional basis or be reassigned permanently to another Aurora Library location as need when special circumstances arise. Skills: Strong interpersonal skills.
