Job Description

The Support Services Manager provides technical and administrative work in the planning, coordinating, and management of operations and personnel for library collections, circulation, and public computing and access services. Assists in policy, planning, and budget development. The listed examples of work are not intended to be all-inclusive. They may be modified with additions, deletions, or changes as necessary. Essential Duties & Responsibilities Participates as a member of the department management team. Contributes to the development of departmental goals, objectives, policies, procedures, and service standards. Plans, organizes, schedules, supervises, reviews, and evaluates the work of division personnel. Provides for their training and professional development. Recommends selection of assigned staff. Manages circulation functions and services and public access computing services. Oversees effective utilization of Marmot Library Network systems and serves as the primary technical liaison to Marmot. Manages collection development and maintenance. Manages acquisition processing and cataloging of library materials in print, media, and digital formats. Assists in developing division budget requirements and monitors expenditures. Other Duties & Responsibilities Communicates with various City departments and divisions to achieve overall organizational objectives. Serves on departmental and/or City-wide committees. Conducts studies and makes recommendations for improved service delivery, capital expenditures, and specialized program development. Provides direct service to Library patrons as assigned. Maintains supply inventory for work area. Serves as Acting Library Director in absence of Director. Performs other duties as assigned and required. IV. PREPARATION AND TRAINING Education: Masters of Library Science Degree Work Experience: Minimum 2 years’ experience in library technology and/or and systems support/management; minimum of 2 years’ supervisory experience in a library setting Certifications and/or Licensures: None Required Driver’s License: None An equivalent combination of education, training and relevant job experience may be substituted. V. KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES Knowledge Working knowledge of: • Professional library services and administration • Collection management • Library circulation • Library technology, to include library systems and personal computers Skills and Abilities Computer Skills - Strong computer skills needed to use integrated library systems and personal computer applications. Strong skills also needed to work with Microsoft Office Suite. Communication - Advanced skills needed to motivate staff and to direct their activities. Also needed to interact with patrons. Analytical - Strong skills needed to coordinate the needs of various sections of the Division and to react quickly to unforeseen deadlines. Project Management - Strong skills needed to oversee division operations, to plan and implement programs, and to schedule staff. General Management - Strong skills needed for budget management, and to develop and administer policies and procedures. Also needed to plan, assign, and evaluate the work of assigned staff. VI. WORKING CONDITIONS Work is performed in a standard office environment, requiring sitting for extended periods of time, and occasional light lifting (up to 15 lbs.). Job requires visual and physical capabilities to perform data entry, filing, and to work on computers and associated equipment for prolonged periods of time (4-6 hours daily).
