Job Description

Seeking a forward thinking and dynamic librarian for the adult services department of the Farmers Branch Manske Library. This position is ideal for an energetic personality with a passion for exceptional library service.

Overview:

• Plans, organizes and supervises the activities of the adult services department; develops and offers a variety of reading, educational and cultural programs for adults to encourage library usage and to foster community relations; and assists library patrons in the use of library services.

Responsibilities:

• Receives oral or written direction from Library Director and/or the Library Services Manager
• Participates in the development of operating policies and procedures
• Participates in the near-term and long range planning of library services
• Participates in library special projects as required or as necessary
• Designs, schedules, coordinates and implements cultural programs for adults
• Selects and creates robust program topics and presenters
• Prepares fliers, posters and media publicity for programs
• Maintains an active public relations program, using local media to publicize library events, programs and services
• Maintains collaborative relationships with community groups, arts organizations and professional library groups
• Prepares statistical and narrative reports for the Director. Reports work accomplished to Director
• Remains current in field
• Works as part of the management team
• Supervises the selection of all materials related to fiction, nonfiction, newspapers, and periodicals, computer services, and reference.
• Performs on service desks as needed.
• Supervises and evaluates all staff assigned to Adult Services
• Performs ongoing employee observation to ensure quality assurance and employee success May act as supervisor in the library in the absence of the Library Director Provide and coordinate Adult Reference Services Promote and train patrons on the use of databases provided by the library
