Job Description

The Campus Copyright Librarian is a full-time, 12-month, exempt librarian position reporting to the Library Director. The Campus Copyright Librarian is the College’s chief resource and consultant on copyright issues, information policy, library services and initiatives relating to copyright. Anticipated start date is May 1, 2014.

The Campus Copyright Librarian develops the College’s copyright policies and coordinates their application to the College and its mission. This position is responsible for the creating, implementing and discharging of library copyright policy for all current and contemplated services. Educating the College community and library staff about copyright through web-based information, workshops, and tutorials will also be a prime function of the position. The Campus Copyright Librarian will perform regular librarian duties such as bibliographic instruction, reference, collection development and be a liaison to departments.

Required Qualifications

  • ALA accredited master’s degree in library or information science or equivalent
  • Additional experience or education sufficient to perform the responsibilities of the job
  • Demonstrated ability to work independently
  • Demonstrated ability to work as part of a team
  • Excellent oral, written and interpersonal communications skills
  • Demonstrated organizational and problem solving skills

Preferred Qualifications

  • Library instruction experience, especially in a classroom setting
  • Library reference experience

Responsibilities

Campus Copyright Policy and Procedure

  • Educate faculty, students and staff on copyright issues and developments such as fair use
  • Create, maintain, and update a College copyright webpage with tutorials and resources
  • Keep the campus community apprised of legal developments with respect to copyright
  • Investigate the copyright status of selected materials, respond to copyright queries
  • Create and maintain administrative systems for tracking copyright queries and responses
  • May convene and lead a Campus Copyright Committee to determine campus copyright policies and procedures

Scholarly Communications and Intellectual Property Rights Management

  • Serve as a campus resource for scholarly communication, open access and author rights information
  • Maintain and develop the College’s Institutional Repository for access to student and faculty works
  • Lead education and outreach efforts to faculty on the scholarly publishing landscape

Materials Licensing

  • Review and negotiate the Library’s database and electronic resource licensing to ensure the right of faculty, students and staff of the college to use these resources particularly in regard to learning management systems

Library Instruction

  • Teach library instruction sessions in composition courses
  • Provide reference services at the reference desk, by appointment, and online, including the possibility of one evening per week on the reference desk
  • Teach faculty requested bibliographic instruction sessions

Other Responsibilities

  • Participate in library governance via the Librarian’s Council and other teams.
  • Prepare statistical and managerial reports
  • Participate in collection development for assigned academic department liaison areas
  • Offer bibliographic instruction to liaison academic departments as requested
  • Pursue professional growth and development
  • Other duties as assigned

Compensation
$50,000.00 annually (prorated to actual months worked), plus full benefits package
