Job Description
This position is an temporary non- benefited position that will include working at the adult services reference desk days, some evenings and some weekends and as needed. Serve at the public reference desk in assigned department, interviews patrons by telephone or in person responding to service requests. Locate information in assigned area using computerized databases and library tools. Accompany patrons to the book or audio-visual resources and instruct patrons in the use of library resources. Recommend resources for purposes of education, information, or recreational reading. Provide general administrative and technical support related to various Library functions and customer service. Assist in conducting Library tours and presenting programs
Additional Info & Requirements
Knowledge of library ILS Horizon system, databases and Overdrive a plus. Two years of clerical and/or technical experience in a public library. Bilingual English/Spanish proficiency desirable. Knowledge of routine procedures of public libraries. Ability to provide assistance and deal courteously and tactfully with library patrons.
Work is performed in a standard library environment, which includes exposure to dust. Requires the ability to move around the building and to access materials on shelves. Work requires light lifting/carrying, standing, walking, bending and sufficient visual and physical capabilities to work on computers and associated equipment. Work requires repetitive motion to enter data on keyboard. Requires skills in working independently as well as with a group and communicating effectively with co-workers and a public of diverse backgrounds.
