Job Description

Jefferson County Public Library seeks a creative librarian to provide outreach services and make connections with the kids, families, and schools of Jefferson County. This position calls for an individual who shares our vision to promote the value of literacy for children, prenatal to elementary school age. You will deliver exemplary story times, early literacy coaching, and outreach services to kids and groups who work with kids, including caregivers and community educators. You will effectively partner with staff to deliver system-wide children’s services, programs, and resources serving babies to 5th grade in both physical and digital environments. You know your way around technology and have the ability to contribute to a social media and web presence that supports our vision. You are a leader who will help to guide a team of community liaisons to promote library resources, programs, and events.

Essential duties include, but are not limited to, the following:

  • Knowledge of early literacy theories and their applications for children and caregivers
  • Proficiency in planning and delivering literacy-based story times
  • Translating children and caregiver needs and interests into effective library outreach services and programs
  • Connecting and engaging with children and caregivers of diverse backgrounds
  • Maintaining and cultivating contact with schools, teachers, community stakeholders, other libraries, state and regional associations, and professional organizations
  • Participating in cross-functioning teams to accomplish goals and objectives
  • Contributing to library resources for children and caregivers, both physical and digital
  • Coordinating and moderating social media efforts and a web presence for a target audience
  • Staying current on trends in library services to children, with a focus on early childhood
  • Staying current on children’s materials in print and digital formats
  • Maintaining a flexible schedule
  • Demonstrating a high level of energy and ability to be “on the move” with children in various settings

  • Experience communicating with children and families, educators, and community groups in an outreach capacity
  • Familiarity with and experience applying early literacy theory in an outreach capacity
  • Fluency, both verbal and written, in English and Spanish
  • Strong presentation, written and verbal communication skills
  • Experience communicating and writing in a digital environment preferred

Must have a valid driver's license, if you are from out of state, you must have a valid Colorado driver's license within 30 days of hire date, and you must not have any major violations, nor more than one DUI, DWI, DWAI conviction in the past three years.

Offer of employment contingent on criminal history, Spanish Proficiency test, MVR check and education verification.

May be required to work some evenings, weekends and minor holidays.
