Job Description

Background Information:

The Denver Public Library’s vision: We are connected.  We are making Denver a better place to live by fostering early literacy, preparing our future workforce, and connecting people of all ages with information, ideas and experiences.  It’s an exciting and pivotal time at the Library!  We are beginning implementation of a new strategic plan which requires both a solid technology foundation and the capacity to innovate using technology. We have an opportunity for a strong and energetic leader to provide vision and guidance to the Library’s IT team as well as be a part of the collegial leadership team of the Collections, Technology and Innovation division. The IT team is currently in the middle of a major network redesign project and will soon be implementing all the technology components for our beautiful new Gonzales Branch Library. Other upcoming projects include expanding makerspaces and digital media labs, selecting and implementing digital signage, and developing and implementing a disaster recovery plan.       

What You’ll Do:

Work downtown at the Central Library to provide leadership and management of the Data and Network Services (or IT) Department, which is responsible for the Library’s network and information systems, including computers, servers and applications such as the Integrated Library System and Google Apps.  Supervise and coach team leaders. Guide the development and implementation of the Library’s technology plan.  Work collaboratively with Library staff to identify technology needs and solutions and establish project plans, budgets and timelines.  Lead and participate on various committees and teams.  Create technology policies and procedures.  Negotiate licenses and contracts with vendors, endeavor to partner with them and oversee compliance.  Organize, coordinate, evaluate, select and implement new technology. Foster a collaborative team environment with a focus on excellent customer service, efficiency and accountability. Encourage and expect innovation from individuals and teams. Communicate effectively with colleagues and internal and external customers. Develop budget recommendations and manage annual and special budgets. Work collaboratively with the City and County of Denver’s Technology Services Department.  Work closely with the Digital User Experience Manager to support the work of web and mobile development.

 Five years of experience working in information technology at a professional level with three years of supervisory responsibility.   Experience with coaching and leading individuals and teams. Experience with successful evaluation, measurement and accountability practices.   Experience with managing a sizeable budget. Experience with a wide variety of technologies. Significant experience with project planning, implementation and management.   Familiarity with library technology systems and networks, security and infrastructure preferred.

A Bachelor's degree in a related field.  A Masters in Information Technology, Computer Science or related field preferred. 

We Provide:

$45.74 - $59.37 per hour starting salary range, $45.74 - $73.00 per hour full salary range.   Although the full salary range for this position is provided, offers are typically made within the starting salary range and depend on qualifications. The City and County of Denver benefit package will be offered.

Regular, full-time, 40 hours per week. The schedule will be determined by the needs of the department and may include evening and weekend hours.
