Job Description

Background Information:

Become a Senior Librarian at the Athmar Park Branch, 1055 S. Tejon St. at W. Mississippi Ave., to work collaboratively with staff to provide bilingual services and materials to children and families in a diverse community. Services will support the Library’s strategic initiatives around     providing library services to immigrant populations and promoting school-age readers and life-long learners.

What You’ll Do:

Create lifelong library customers by implementing and managing library services designed for serving and empowering a diverse customer base eager to explore and engage with their community. Supervise the daily operations of a busy branch location including personnel, scheduling, customer service and collection. Provide leadership to the branch, cluster and system. Collaborate with a team of Senior Librarians and Managers to develop, design and implement system-wide library services based on strategic initiatives. Build relationships with youth and their families to nurture curiosity and to provide homework and technology assistance. Communicate effectively about issues and initiatives with customers, staff, volunteers and administration. Work to make the library an integral part of the community. Builds relationships and collaborates with community partners.

You Have:

Knowledge of library services for customers, including reference, reader’s advisory, positive youth development and promotion of library services to immigrant populations. Knowledge of library services and popular materials for all ages. Knowledge of current trends in library programming. Skill in providing reference, reader and media advisory service. Skill in providing strong, passionate and compassionate leadership. Ability to recruit, select, supervise, train and motivate a dedicated and talented staff. Ability to thrive working in an environment with constant public contact with people from all backgrounds and age groups. Ability to model a positive attitude, excellent interpersonal skills, cultural sensitivity and a sense of humor. Ability to creatively solve problems, negotiate and handle stressful situations in a positive manner. Ability to create and maintain positive staff relationships. Ability to communicate effectively. Ability to multi-task and prioritize. Ability to demonstrate innovation and flexibility. Ability to use extensive workplace and other technology including email, internet, databases, eMedia, social media and other software. Ability to pass a background check after the offer to hire has been made.

A preferred Spanish language ability (strongly preferred, not required).

Two years of post-MLS professional-level work in a library.

A Master’s in Library Science from an ALA accredited institution.

We Provide:

$22.41 - $29.15 per hour starting salary range; $22.41 - $35.87 per hour full salary range.

Although the full salary range for this position is provided, offers are typically made within the starting salary range and depend on qualifications. The City and County of Denver benefit package will be offered.

Regular, full-time, 40 hours per week. The schedule will be determined by the needs of the branch and will include evening and weekend hours.
