Job Description

Being a Public Services Manager at JCPL means being a leader - a forward thinker who is passionate about providing public library service in our community. It also means being up-to-date on current trends in the profession and being an advocate for libraries and for a new kind of patron experience.

Under the direction of the Director of Public Service, this Public Services Manager at JCPL will not only manage the beautiful libraries in Evergreen and Conifer, but will also manage system-wide services for training our public services staff on competencies specific to their work and manage our substitute work force. This manager will be a leader in achieving Library objectives by planning, implementing, and leveraging system resources to their fullest potential.
A Public Services Manager at JCPL has broad discretion to hire, assign, train, manage and supervise staff including coaching to best practices; is accountable for budget planning and expenditures and routinely makes decisions on policy enforcement.
Staff in this position are benefit-eligible, full time employees. Hours may include weekends. Staff in this position must comply with laws governing patron privacy and confidentiality under CRS24-90-119 and the Code of Ethics of the American Library Associations; as well as the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) governing public access to space and technology.

Recruits, assesses, hires, trains, supervises and evaluates staff in the Evergreen and Conifer libraries and in the area of Public Services Staff Training.· Designs and implements new efficiencies and experiments with new ways to accomplish work in public libraries, particularly in the area of training to job competencies and managing our substitute work force for all JCPL Public Services staff. · Manages the quality and quantity of staff training and competency for all JCPL public services staff; monitors trends; resolves problems; works with outsourcing vendors.· Uses established industry benchmarks to determine gaps in service provision and quality at the Evergreen and Conifer libraries, the JCPL substitute workforce and in Public Services Staff Training.· Communicates expectations to staff and colleagues about library service at the Evergreen and Conifer libraries and trends in areas of Public Services staff training.· Develops metrics, performance measurement and goal setting at the Evergreen and Conifer libraries and in Public Services staff training.· Creates a flexible environment for implementing new library services and trends. Leads tactical plan initiatives through project management.· Communicates expectations and collaborate with others in cross-functional teams to accomplish goals and objectives. · Collaborates with our community partners at Conifer High School and R1 Schools. Manages that Intergovernmental Agreement.· Serves as a member of the Public Services Management Team to develop overall strategy, tactical objectives, and short and long-term planning for deployment of resources.· Directs work groups, monitors assignments and their completion and works with multiple levels of staff, assuring alignment with strategic plan.· Works in direct patron contact 4-8 hours per month.· Spokesperson responsible for delivery of Library’s message to internal and external customers.· Demonstrates advanced skill in using computers and electronic resources.· Resolves customer service issues, including dealing with law enforcement and first responders.

Additional Info & Requirements

Must be available to work some evenings, weekends and minor holidays.
