Job Description

Role: Provides public services leadership, manages public services, and supervises staff. Major Duties and Responsibilities: 25% - PUBLIC SERVICES LEADERSHIP - Enables others to act by sharing information; develops new programs, evaluates library services; analyzes local and regional community needs and conditions in order to set long range and specific goals, objectives, and future planning needs; implements strategies and make decisions that lead to best practices in public services; assists in planning new library facilities. 25% - MANAGEMENT OF PUBLIC SERVICES - Sets goals and arranges tasks, people and other resources to accomplish the work to assure high-quality, responsive customer services and to meet goals and objectives as outlined in the strategic plan; plans, develops, directs and implements branch library services; develops and interprets library policies; motivates, directs and influences staff to achieve the goals and continuously improve; monitors performance, taking corrective action as needed; provides oversight of programs, policies, procedures and services in order to manage public services. 20% - SUPERVISION OF STAFF - Gets information, makes sense of it, sets job-related performance objectives, organizes resources and makes decisions, hires, coaches and evaluates staff, resolves conflict and appraises performance in order to optimize the expected performance of staff. Directs professional development and identifies training needs of public services staff. 15% - BUDGET – Recommends public services budget and monitors public services expenditures; receives budget recommendations from branch managers and evaluates fiscal needs based upon district priorities in order to allocate budget dollars to district needs. 15% - COMMUNITY - Represents the Weld Library District and speaks before groups and maintains positive relations with other agencies and organizations in order to identify community library needs and promote library services. Advocates on behalf of libraries and librarians. Services on District management team, coordinating with them to provide support to Public Services. The Weld Library District is seeking applicants with solid experience in managing library services for the position of Associate Director of Public Services. The position will oversee the public services of five full service branch libraries totaling 500,000 items and over 133,000 square feet which includes the Erie Community Library and the Carbon Valley Regional Library currently in the construction phases. With the expansive prairie out one door and the towering Rocky Mountains out the other, Weld County has unlikely combinations that complement each other beautifully.
