Job Description

The Faculty Director of Reference and Instructional Services is a tenure-stream faculty position reporting to the Associate Director for Public Services of the University Libraries. The Reference and Instructional Services Department serves the university community by providing collections, programs, and services that meet the information needs of the social sciences and humanities as well as instructional programs in support of the undergraduate core curriculum. Responsibilities include management and supervision of departmental activities and personnel, leadership in reference and instructional services, policy setting, and implementation and management of an information commons (which may potentially involve space and program reallocation). The position supervises a department consisting of 9 FTE faculty, 4.5 FTE classified staff, and an assigned student budget. Significant parts of the responsibilities of this position are scholarly activity and creative work and service in keeping with the tenure standards of the University of Colorado at Boulder. Requirements for the position include: Master’s degree from an ALA accredited library school At least five years of relevant experience in a reference setting Strong interpersonal skills Ability to work in a collaborative environment Effective oral and written communication skills Demonstrated supervisory experience Preferences include: A significant record of librarianship research/publication and service Record of increasing administrative responsibility Degree(s) in a social sciences and/or humanities field Experience mentoring junior colleagues Appointment and Salary: The successful candidate will be appointed as a full-time (12 month) tenure-stream faculty member. Depending upon demonstrated accomplishments in scholarly activity, creative work, and service, appointment will be at the assistant professor, associate professor, or full professor level. Starting salary range $60,000-$69,000. Benefits include 22 working days of vacation, ten paid holidays, liberal sick leave, university group health plans, group life insurance, TIAA/CREF retirement/annuity, and support for scholarly/professional activities.
