Board books, Lego books, picture books, dinosaurs, easy readers, Katniss Everdeen, literacy, The Heir, graphic novels - are all these familiar and dear to your heart? Do you understand the part parents play in selecting books for their children to read? Do you know what children look for when they go into a library? Are you aware of teen reading trends? If so this may be the job for you! Jefferson County Public Library seeks a vibrant, innovative and dynamic librarian to do collection development for children and teen books. This position calls for an individual with a passion for collecting the perfect books for our younger patrons that will meet their research and recreational needs. The ideal candidate will help build an exemplary and well circulating collection that supports the vision of Imagine JCPL - a new service model. In addition this position is also responsible for the selection of adult graphic novels. The successful candidate will effectively partner with other staff in collections and in the libraries to ensure that the best materials are being chosen for Jefferson County Public Library patrons.
Essential duties include, but not limited to, the following:
- Knowledge of children and teen books, including graphic novels.
- Knowledge of adult graphic novels.
- Ability to translate the needs and interests of children and teens into materials for our collection.
- Stays current on trends in library services and materials to children and teens.
- Stays current on trends in the graphic novel field for all ages including adults.
- Works on building a Spanish collection that will meet the needs of Jefferson County residents.
- Experience with K-12 education or equivalent preferred.
- Participates with others in cross-functional teams to accomplish goals and objectives.
- Maintain a flexible schedule, able to work some evenings weekends, holidays.
Must be available to work some evenings, weekends and holidays.
