Job Description

Position is assigned to the Morgan Library as an assistant to the Coordinator for Archives and will be responsible for departmental activities. This position also serves as the primary contact person for general reference services of the department, referring topical questions to staff specialists. In collaboration with the Coordinator, departmental staff and other staff in the Libraries, The Assistant to the Coordinator promotes archival collections and Colorado State University's archival mission via the web, special events and class tours. With other departmental staff members, and on behalf of the Coordinator, the position serves as a work leader for student assistants. Interaction with archival donors, in collaboration with the Coordinator, will be an occasional feature of this position. Duties include, but are not limited to the following: Assists the Coordinator by activities such as administrative reporting; policy manuals; physical space management; departmental budget management; web pages, and online instructional modules. Tracks collections through accessions databases. Records departmental procedures and meeting activities via minutes and e-mail communication. Interacts with archival donors in collaboration with the Coordinator. Explains and interprets the holdings and operations of the department to users (faculty, staff, students, researchers, and community members) and instructs them in identifying and using appropriate materials to locate needed information. Serves as the primary contact person for general reference services of the department, referring topical questions to staff specialist. In collaboration with the Coordinator, departmental staff and other staff in the Libraries, promotes archival collections and Archives mission via the web, special events, and class tours. Works with departmental staff and members of Metadata and Digital Services team to assure smooth workflow for digital requests. In collaboration with other departmental staff members, and on behalf of the Coordinator, serves as work leader for student assistant. Trains, schedules, monitors and evaluates student employee performance in research assistance and projects in accordance with the policy and procedures of the department and Library. Assists the Coordinator and departmental staff in the hire of new student assistants. Makes sure that the public desk is scheduled for open hours and whenever possible, identifies fill-ins when unexpected absences occur.

Additional Info & Requirements

Four years of general library/archives experience which included two years of technical/archives experience preferably in an academic setting. Substitutions: Two years of course work from an accredited college or university including twelve semester hours of library science or archival methodology course work may substitute for two years of general library experience. Special Requirements: Must be willing and able to pass a background check. Highly Desirable: Experience with Microsoft Access, Microsoft Excel and Microsoft Word; experience with web software applications such as Dream weaver and FrontPage.
