Job Description
The Shelving Supervisor is a key position within the library. We are looking for someone to fill the role of supervisor, trainer, mentor, cheerleader and coach for our library shelvers, pages and volunteers. In this position you will manage 25-30 part time staff with a wide variety of backgrounds, experiences and personalities. This team is the heart of our library. Each year, they reshelve over 1.2-million items. All of our success as an organization builds on the work of this important group. The Shelving Supervisor reports to and works closely with the Circulation Manager to ensure success of the entire Circulation Team. As Shelving Supervisor, you will be part of the library's leadership team whose ideas and expertise will shape our library's future.
PRINCIPAL DUTIES: Supervise employees and volunteers including the selection process, preparing work schedules, designing and conducting training, problem resolution, ensuring staff coverage, and performance evaluation. Provide direct assistance to customers at the Circulation desk performing work of the Library Assistants as well as resolving customer service issues such as disputes over payment of fines, overdue/lost/damages materials, and policy interpretation. Work collaboratively with collection agency in the recovery of fees and/or overdue materials. Provide technical support to staff in Circulation and report modules of the Library’s integrated library system (ILS) software. Assist and instruct patrons in the use of computer software programs and the Internet. Conduct searches using automated Library databases such as OCLC, Prospector and the Library’s integrated software system. Participate in and represent the Library to citywide, regional, and or state committees.
DEFINITION: Under the supervision of a Librarian II or Circulation Manager, performs responsible administrative and technical tasks in support of the Longmont Public Library services and functions specifically in Circulation and the Interlibrary Loan program, including assisting in supervision of administrative employees and providing advanced and/or technical customer service.

Two to four years of clerical and/or technical experience in a public library. General supervisory experience is desirable. Special Qualifications: Bilingual (English/Spanish) proficiency desirable.
