Job Description

The Statewide Collaborative Programming Coordinator is a newly created full time position within the Colorado State Library.  The position is open to experienced information professionals with strong project management, technical and facilitation skills.  Candidates should be passionate about exploring and supporting cooperative programming and resource sharing initiatives within the Colorado library and cultural heritage communities.

The ideal candidate should possess the following skills:

  • Proven proficiency in project management, communication and outreach activities.
  • Experience creating written procedures and guidelines, program documentation and accurately representing a workflow crossing multiple organizations.
  • Expertise working in a library or other cultural heritage organization, or affiliated educational or professional organization.
  • Experience working with resource sharing and cooperative programs, such as interlibrary loan, consortial purchasing and licensing, or technical services.
  • Profound attention to detail, while simultaneously maintaining a big picture perspective when needed.
  • Experience coordinating the activities of small teams towards identified goals.
  • Experience working with diverse communities and building effective relationships within those communities.
  • Awareness of current trends in cooperative programing initiatives among library communities.
  • Presentation and training skills.
  • Promotion and marketing skills.
  • Ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously and develop feasible, realistic solutions to problems and conundrums.

The position will be responsible for identifying, researching, assisting and coordinating collaborative technology related programs and initiatives within the state.  This would include, but not be limited to facilitating a resource sharing task force composed of member representation from the diverse library and cultural heritage community, identifying initiatives within the state and endeavoring to bring them to greater success through community partnerships and working in concert with others to ensure that the right people are at the table when a cooperative initiative is in its infancy.  This position will also be responsible for the management and administration of ongoing cooperative technology programs run through the State Library.

Having knowledge of the inner workings of a library or cultural heritage organization is very important as on the ground knowledge helps provide the detailed perspective that will give credence to the work this role will be doing within the community and the relationships this role will be forming.  Knowledge of MARC and other commonly used standards not required but highly recommended.

Major Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Liaise with and advise public libraries participating in the statewide mobile app pilot, including handling renewals and promoting growth in participation.
  • Revitalize and promote the Colorado Libraries Collaborate (CLC) program.
  • Actively explore opportunities for statewide collaboration across library and cultural heritage communities.
  • Administration of and maintenance for statewide technology initiatives.
  • Explore and develop potential markets and scenarios for a possible statewide ebook platform.
  • Convene and facilitate an ongoing resource sharing advisory committee to investigate statewide collaborative initiatives.
  • Liaise and communicate with others at the Colorado State Library and other library cooperatives and organizations to share information learned and strategize potential solutions to identified needs.
  • Regularly contribute content to the Colorado Virtual Library online resource, including engagement with diverse cultural heritage communities via social media and outreach.
  • Keep informed on professional developments and trends within the area of resource sharing and collaborative engagement and services.
  • Work with others on the Networking and Resources Sharing (NRS) team to bring services together in a more integrated environment, and cross promote services to provide greater awareness of NRS cooperative programing to cultural institutions throughout the state.

Required Skills & Qualifications

  • MLS from an American Library Association accredited program or equivalent advanced degree.
  • Minimum of 3 years professional experiences within the library or cultural heritage community.
  • Exceptionally strong background in customer service.
  • Experience with consortially shared data systems and programs.
  • Strong attention to detail.
  • Excellent written and verbal communications skills.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
  • Proven experience with project management and juggling multiple demands.
  • Ability to take a concept and turn it into an initiative with the input of others.
  • Ability to prioritize independently and identify when to seek input in setting priorities.
  • Ability and willingness to travel within the state as needed.
  • Ability to pass a background check.

Strongly Preferred:

  • Knowledge of commonly used standards and protocols within the library community (e.g. MARC, NISO, NCIP, Z39.50…).
  • Knowledge of current issues and trends in intellectual property, copyright and fair use.
  • Experience with quality assurance and quality control in a shared technology environment.
  • Public speaking and presentation experience.
  • Experience with web maintenance and content creation.
  • Marketing and promotion experience.
  • Willingness to develop and grow in any way the role takes you.

This postion is funded by the Colorado State Libary, but is administered through a cooperative arrangement with the Colorado Library Consortium (CLiC).  All activities and responsibilities undertaken within this role are for the advancement of Colorado State Library initiatives and programs.
