Job Description

You are passionate about our products, from downloadable media to good ole hard covers. You are not ashamed of your love for pop culture; from the newest Beyoncé release to James Patterson prepubs, you know what’s hot and whose holds lists fill up quick. As an innovative leader, you channel that passion to the collection development team, creating a fun, inspiring environment for your staff. You are the champion for intellectual freedom and our collection philosophy, ensuring that staff and customers understand what public libraries are all about – free access to all. You understand the importance of a popular-browsing collection that reflects our community and helps our customers transform their quality of life through education, civic engagement, the arts, and entertainment.

Who you are:

  • You are tapped into the publishing world, constantly reviewing everything from Rolling Stone to Publishers Weekly and beyond.
  • You are a lot of things to a lot of people – coach, leader, partner, and manager.
  • You are an effective communicator, able to negotiate with and persuade staff, vendors, and customers.
  • You are an innovator and a steward.
  • You are a team player who thinks quickly on your feet and can lead from within a team.
  • You are an active listener with lots of patience.
  • You’re excited about leading others in a changing environment.
  • You know and love the way libraries and systems work, including circulation processes, policies, and procedures.
  • You value responsive, personal customer service and view the Library as a platform for community innovation and experiential learning.
  • You are a problem solver who can anticipate issues and mitigate risk.
  • You love your tech and have a good knowledge of library systems.

Your work:

  • You embrace the library’s mission, vision, and values, and can apply them to your daily operations and team.
  • You’re a rock star manager, overseeing selection, cataloging, interlibrary loan and dispatch, ensuring our customers get the materials they love as quickly as possible.
  • You help pick the stuff that people want to read/watch/hear – and you love it. You help identify trends to support our popular-browsing collection.
  • You manage all our electronic collections and vendors to include downloadable e-books, audio books and online resources.
  • You lead the weeding charge, guiding the library in procedures to keep materials new, fresh and beautiful.
  • You think like an entrepreneur. You understand budgeting and what it takes to develop, oversee and actively manage the collection development budget and run your organization responsibly with a great bottom line.
  • You make the library’s brilliant collection known throughout the land, managing the conversion of MARC records to BIBFRAME.
  • You provide strategic and tactical leadership as a member of the library’s management team.
  • You research and implement emerging trends in libraries and the world at large.
  • You create a work environment that encourages high performance, collaboration, innovation and customer service;
  • You know the ILS like the back of your hand.  You run reports, produce metrics, and make data-driven decisions
  • You take the initiative, working together with your team to find solutions.
  • You embrace innovations including tools and practices to produce an effective and efficient operation.
  • You understand our community's needs and how the library’s collection can meet those needs.
