Job Description
The Department of Heritage & Arts, Division of Utah State Library has an opening for a Librarian III, Metadata Cataloger. This Librarian III position will catalog and process born-digital state publications. This position requires an ability to work independently. Incumbent must have a resourceful knowledge of government agencies and digital library technologies. The incumbent will add document properties, index text files with OCR software, optimize documents for the web, create XML templates, catalog metadata records using Dublin Core standards, identify online state publications for inclusion in digital library, and assist in usability testing and quality control for publications in the digital library. The incumbent will be a Metadata Cataloger assisting the Digital Library Services Coordinator in preparing and cataloging digitized and born-digital state publications for the online digital library (Utah Code Ann. § 9-7-201 to 9-7-209).
Additional Info & Requirements
- Working knowledge of cataloging rules, standards, and metadata schemas
- Knowledge of current digital library technologies, standards, and best practices
- Knowledge of the structure and functions of state and local government
- Proficiency with Internet searching and web monitoring tools
- Demonstrated ability to catalog Dublin Core metadata and create XML records
- Ability to apply terms from controlled vocabularies including Library of Congress name authorities and OCLC searchFAST subject headings
- Ability to work independently to create high-quality, error-free metadata
