Description of Community
The library is located in the rural farming community of Syracuse, KS. Hamilton County is located in Southwest Kansas. Hamilton County Library serves the communities of Syracuse, Coolidge and Kendall and rural areas in Hamilton County. The library serves about 2600 residents. The land area of the county is 998.5 square miles with an average of 2.7 persons per sq. mile. The area offers natural beauty and recreational opportunities including a beautiful 9 hole golf course, historic theater and local Sand Dunes
It has a hospital, an excellent school system, an active community and a national retail store as well as restaurants and stores with the local touch. It has all the advantages of a friendly small town with proximity to an airport and the resources of a neighboring city (Garden City).
Residents of the county are very supportive of the library and its place in the community. The library has a very active Teen Friends group. The Board embraces fundraising and advocacy to sustain the library’s long term viability.

Director Position
Hamilton County Public Library seeks an energetic, collaborative, forward thinking director with demonstrated leadership skills and professionalism, relevant library experience, excellent communication skills and the vision to take the Library to the next level of excellence in serving the community. This is the opportunity for someone who wants to lead a library that is the center of the community, highly regarded by residents and where you can really make a difference.
The Director works with/ supervises a dedicated staff of 2-3 full and part-time employees. The position reports to the five member Board of Trustees with oversight responsibility for operating and maintaining the library, including:
Financial management
Management of library personnel
Policy development.
Provide leadership for the creation, development and implementation of innovative service and technology
Develop effective and positive working relationships with county, city and community leaders and local groups.
Preferred Education:
Master's Degree in Library Science or Business
Experience: 3 years Library experience required with Supervisory experience preferred.
Relevant Professional and Library Experience will be considered.
Language Skills: Spanish is not required
