Job Description

The Clinton-Macomb Public Library, an independent library district in suburban Detroit, Michigan, has an incredible opportunity for a new Head of Information Technology to take the lead on an ambitious plan to fully upgrade the library’s technology infrastructure and more over the next two years. With the passage of an additional, dedicated tax levy in 2014 the library’s financial position is sound, and we are seeking to become an innovator in our field. The successful candidate will live and breathe technology but always remember that its purpose is to enrich and empower people. We are looking for an excellent communicator and collaborator with a strong focus on customer service to join our team of 145 in delivering outstanding, forward-thinking library service to over 170,000 residents.

Additional Info & Requirements

  • Undergraduate degree in information systems or related field preferred
  • Three years of professional experience
  • Familiarity with current versions of Microsoft Windows, Windows Server, Office, and VMWare
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships at all levels
  • Active listener with strong oral and written communication skills, including the ability to explain technology concepts in user friendly terms
  • Delivers consistently prompt, patient, professional customer service to the staff and public
  • Ability to prioritize duties and tasks, work independently, and assume responsibility
  • Seeing; keyboarding; using the telephone; lifting and moving computers and peripherals; walking; bending; stooping; crouching; reaching; spreading ice melt
  • Standing or sitting for periods of time
  • Writing or typing to complete work forms
  • Desire to meet and serve the public
  • Knowledge of English language, spelling and arithmetic
  • High energy, self-motivated to support leading-edge services in a growing library
  • Experience with managed networking switches, firewalls, anti-virus, Veeam, Microsoft Exchange, SharePoint and IIS
  • Knowledge of the philosophy and techniques of public library service

The Community

The Clinton-Macomb Public Library comprises two townships that have voluntarily partnered to form a library district to serve their 170,000 residents spanning 62 square miles. The distrct is located approimately 20 miles northeast of Detroit and is located in Macomb County, Michigan. The beautiful Main Library spans 84,000 s.f. and opened in 2003; the North Branch is 14,000 s.f. and ready for future expansion; and the new South Branch is 20,000 s.f., opened in 2014.
