The Community

Located approximately 160 miles south of Denver along the I-25 corridor, Walsenburg lies at a cultural and economic crossroads. Three major highways junction here, Interstate Highway-25 going north and south, Highway 160 heading to Alamosa and points west, and Highway 10 towards La Junta and the eastern plains.

We have a wide cultural diversity here as well, with the descendants of immigrants from many coal mining and agricultural communities around the world. We are also a gateway to the mountains of Southern Colorado with Sangre De Cristo’s and the Wet Mountains nearby, and just to the southwest, our namesake; the Huajatollas or Spanish Peaks.
